FENDER or
Gibson?
The fight for musical engineering in the 1920s changed the face of music and started a revolution of new, unique guitars. The guitar for the longest time was stuck in the rhythm section because it couldn't be heard
in crowded, noisy clubs, bars and dance halls. This push for sound quality was the main influence on experimenting with electrical sound pickups. A Gibson engineer named Lloyd Loar, a curious musician who developed a functional coil-wound pickup in around 1923. Gibson was not yet interested to bring this to market but roughly 10 years later in 1933 this invention was introduced to the market and was a huge hit!
Though Fender was not the first electric guitar to be placed on the market, commercially they were very successful with advertising and getting the word out on these great cheaper styles of electric guitars. Its hard to say which company really made the electric guitar because it seems like all styles and ideas were considered when inventing such an extraordinary piece.

By the 1930s electric amplification was firmly established and various companies had taken the path to new styles of electric guitars. The race between Fender and Gibson seemed to die down in the end and it doesn't really matter who changed the face of guitar is was everything leading up to it.
Here is a sound test between a Fender and a Gibson guitar. Personally the sound and feel created from the Gibson takes my vote. But everyone has a different opinion on there favored sound.
